Usage of the Pluperfect Subjunctive

Hypothetical past (si + Pluperfect Subj. → Conditional Perfect) Si hubiera estudiado más, habría aprobado. — If I had studied more, I would have passed.

Wishes and emotions about the past Ojalá hubiera venido antes. — If only he had come earlier! Me alegró que hubieran llegado sanos. — I was glad they had arrived safely.
