Bildung des Gerundio
Das Gerundio ist die spanische Verlaufsform, vergleichbar mit dem deutschen Partizip I.
Regelmäßige Formen

Unregelmäßige Formen
- e→i Stammvokalwechsel bei -ir Verben: pedir → pidiendo, seguir → siguiendo
- o→u Stammvokalwechsel bei -ir Verben: dormir → durmiendo, morir → muriendo
- Vokal + iendo → yendo: leer → leyendo, oír → oyendo, caer → cayendo
- Vollständig unregelmäßig: ir → yendo, poder → pudiendo

3Anwendung
Verwendung des Gerundio
1. Verlaufsform (estar + Gerundio) Für Handlungen, die gerade im Gange sind (in allen Zeiten möglich). Estoy comiendo. — Ich esse gerade. Estaba durmiendo cuando llegaste. — Ich schlief gerade, als du ankamst.
2. Gleichzeitige Handlungen Llegó corriendo. — Er kam rennend an. (Er rannte, als er ankam.) Estudia escuchando música. — Er lernt, während er Musik hört.
3. Art und Weise (Modalangabe) Aprendió español viajando por España. — Er lernte Spanisch, indem er durch Spanien reiste.
4. Mit seguir/continuar (fortgesetzte Handlung) Sigue lloviendo. — Es regnet weiterhin. Continúa estudiando. — Er lernt weiterhin.
Achtung: Das Gerundio darf NICHT als Adjektiv verwendet werden (wie im Deutschen/Englischen)! Falsch: una carta describiendo el problema → Richtig: una carta que describe el problema
